I enjoy your news letter and almost always learn a lot of good tips.  As a skier who broke my leg 4 years ago, I can relate to your snow boarding story.  I think I will purchase an accident policy based on the benefits that you outlined.

I'm a physician and I've trumpeted the cause for portable insurance with higher deductibles for years.  I'm constantly running into patients that don't have any health coverage.  Most say they can't afford it.  That's when I launch into my speech about how it is really affordable, but the major players in the pre-paid health care industry (third party payors is the politically correct term) don't want people to know that they can afford alternative coverage that is actually less expensive!

Convincing people that first-dollar benefits are very expensive to insure is not easy.  You have done a very good job of getting the message out.

I've actually referred a couple of patients to your website as an information source on HSA's and high deductible plans.  I've got to be careful not to endorse any certain broker or company, so I emphasize the HSA part of what you do and encourage them to educate themselves as much as possible and find the plan that fits their needs.  The uninsured often argue the reasoning for paying a premium for a deductible that they never meet; I use the example of one week stay in the ICU after an accident or major orthopedic surgery which could easily be 50-100k.  I tell them a $10,000 bill won't bankrupt you but a $100,000 bill certainly could.
